He showed up, worked hard, and made everyone around him better — in sports, in the classroom, in life. This scholarship isn't just about athletic achievement or grades, though both matter. It's about recognizing young people who understand what Derek understood: that how you carry yourself, how you treat others, and how hard you're willing to work define you more than any trophy ever could.
